Join FWC Staff in cutting down intruding sand pines to create more useable habitat for Scrub-Jays.
Qualified Ridge Rangers may use chain saws, and battery-powered sawsalls will be available for others.
Sand Pines will take over a Scrub Habitat, eliminating homes for endangered Scrub-Jays and harboring predators. We'll be cutting down the pines to create more useable habitat for Scrub-Jays.
Meet at the Intersection of Gould Road and US 27 (east side), which is about 6.1 miles south of the SR 70/US 27 intersection (which is another 6 miles south of Lake Placid).

Please wear sturdy footwear, long pants/long sleeves, and a hat. Please bring your workgloves and a hiker's water bottle or similar.
We'll have cold drinking water and all the tools necessary.

The Gould Road Tract is part of FWC’s Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area and was purchased in 1995. Gould Road contains populations of a number of rare and endangered plants and animals, including the Florida Scrub-Jay, Scrub Eryngo, Scrub Olive, and Scrub Blazing Star, and Pygmy Fringe Tree!
One outstanding feature of this site is that it is literally on the edge of the Lake Wales Ridge; from the eastern boundary one can see a significant topographical change as the slope drops down to the east.
