Gather acorns in scrub habitat to grow oaks for restoration project
Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area/Royce Ranch Unit.
The Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area is managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and consists of 19 separate units scattered along 75 miles of the Lake Wales Ridge. FWC manages these areas to protect endangered species and habitats.
The acorns you gather will be used to grow oaks to help restore scrub oak habitat.

Please bring your work gloves. Drinking water and all other equipment needed will be provided.
Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants/long sleeves, and a hat. You may wish to bring a hiker's water bottle or similar to carry drinking water.
From the corner of US 27 and CR 621 in Lake Placid, go east on CR 621 1.7 miles to Hallmark Ave. on the left. Turn left on Hallmark. After 3.6 miles the road makes a sharp left and sharp right and changes names to Royce Ranch Ave. After a total of 5.0 miles on Hallmark / Royce Ranch Ave, Royce Ranch is on the left, marked by an FWC logo. Turn left onto the driveway and follow it back to the offices.
