What we'll be doing?

We will be collecting and removing marine debris along an old roadway adjacent to mangroves. Marine debris poses a high risk to wildlife through entanglement and ingestion, which can lead to starvation, entrapment and death. The debris we will find consists mostly of plastics, rope, fishing line, shoes and pieces of wood. We will provide gloves, pick up tools and all the materials we need for the cleanup.

What should you bring?

We may have to walk into the mangroves so closed toe shoes (i.e. no flip flops) that can get wet are recommended. It is also advisable to wear long pants, bring sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat. We will provide water but please bring your own water bottle.

When are we working?

Friday, November 10th

We will meet at 8:30 am to walk to the cleanup site and start the cleanup at 9:00 am. We estimate finishing at 12:00 pm.

The cleanup site is located on the south end of Upper Sugarloaf Key. Meeting location will be sent to all those who register for the event. If you have any difficulty signing up, please feel free to drop me an email and let me know you're planning on attending
