What we'll be doing?

Volunteers will assist FWC biologists with the installation of posting materials and signage on Little Estero Island Critical Wildlife Area (CWA). CWAs are established by the FWC under the Florida Administrative Code to protect important wildlife concentrations from human disturbance during critical periods of their life cycles, such as nesting or migration. The term 'posting' refers to the establishment of a buffer zones to limit or reduce access to humans, pets, and vehicles.

Little Estero Island CWA is an important breeding site for least terns, snowy plover and Wilson's plover. In order to limit disturbance, FWC install fencing and signage to restrict disturbance on this important breeding site. Volunteers will assist in placing the posting materials around the CWA and attaching the appropriate signage.

Where to meet?

Public parking is very limited in this area. We will therefore meet volunteers at the nearby location and transport you to the site. We plan to meet volunteers at 8AM and will arrange with those interested in a suitable meeting location.

What to bring with you?

Please bring a water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, hat and suitable clothing for working on the beach all morning. We will have a cooler of water on site. You will be handling wooden posts so gloves are recommended.
