We’ll be continuing the Sand Pine Reduction effort at HHSP near where we've worked before. Removing the intruding sand pines from the scrub oak area at HHSP creates more habitat for endangered Florida Scrub-Jays.

We'll be using hand saws, loppers, and chainsaws (for those qualified)  to cut down sand pines in an ongoing major Scrub-jay habitat restoration in the Tiger Branch area of the park.

The objective is to reduce the density of sand pines and return the acreage to oak scrub.

A new pair of adult jays were counted in this area during the June 2015 JayWatch!

Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for working in brush. Also please bring your work gloves and a hiker’s water bottle or similar. We’ll have plenty of cold drinking water and all the tools needed.

Meet at the CCC Museum area in the park.

Ridge Rangers and Park Staff pose for a group shot after clearing sand pines from the scrub habitat in the background.
