Jay Watch is a citizen science project surveying the Florida Scrub-Jay and led by Audubon (and supported by FWC).  Surveys run from June 15 - July 15 each year. Surveys take place from around 7am -10/12 and each site is surveyed three consecutive days in a row.


This training is required to participate in Jay Watch surveys.


What to bring:

  • binoculars
  • plenty of water
  • snacks
  • a smile!

What to wear:

  • lightweight long pants
  • closed-toed shoes
  • hat/visor
  • sunscreen

Participants will learn:

  • the cooperative family structure of Florida Scrub-jays
  • how to identify adults vs. juveniles
  • how to delineate family groups
  • our standardized Jay Watch survey methods
