Please join Bok Tower Gardens for a Scrub habitat improvement event at FWC's Lake Blue Scrub in Auburndale!  We will focus on creating open sand gaps within an acre area by hand-weeding invasive grasses, removing previously cut tree brush, and using brush cutters and hand tools to remove dense overgrown runner oaks, as part of Bok Tower's research into the response of listed species to habitat changes.

The target is to improve the habitat for the many different scrub species found at Lake Blue, including the federal and state endangered Scrub Lupine (Lupinus aridorum),  Scrub Morning Glory (Bonamia grandiflora), and Scrub Blazing Star (Liatris ohlingerae), just to name a few.  Scrub habitat is becoming increasingly rare and the few remaining parcels are also becoming increasingly difficult to manage, and particularly difficult to manage with prescribed burn, due to the proximity of residential areas.

Please wear long pants/long sleeves, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and a hat. Bring your work gloves and a hiker's water bottle or similar.with drinking water.

Meet at the Lake Blue Scrub gate, just south of the intersection of 1st Ave and Hobbs Rd at 8 AM. The provided address is an approximate location. It is across the street from a storage facility (called Iron Mountain on your GPS map).
