Due to all the plants getting planted at the previous workday, this event has been cancelled.

This is an exciting opportunity to assist with planting native vegetation at Barbara B. Pedersen Preserve. You will be planting both native grasses and native wildflowers two grasses will be planted for each wildflower. The hope is to eventually plant all of the area to a sandhill ecosystem.  The plantings will be followed up with watering and future waterings as needed.

This area was in citrus but has been cleared for this first planting of typical sandhill plants. The rest of the Preserve was all Sandhill ecosystem but has become overgrown over the years and many of the tall longleaf pines were killed in a recent hurricane.

The goal is to plant 2350 native plants. A previous workday was held, the hope is to get the second half of these plants planted.

The site is on the west side of Alt 27 between Dundee and Lake Wales.  There is a small sign on the highway.  Parking is available along the drive on the grass.  The planting area is in the cleared open area on the south side of the drive.

Please bring a reusable water bottle and wear long sleeves, long pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, and work gloves.

There are no restroom facilities onsite however, Dundee has several public businesses that have restrooms and there is a Sunoco going south on Alt 27
