What you'll be doing?
Discover your innate sleuthing skills with this exciting opportunity to study and monitor the behaviour and habitat of the invasive tegu lizard. This project involves many aspects including inspecting for tegu tracks, setting and baiting traps, using GPS units, and monitoring activity by setting up motion activated cameras. Sign up quick for this great opportunity because there are only limited spots available per day.
If you attend the event you will be working with the tegu project's biologist or the volunteer coordinator depending on the day. Expect to be out in native Florida habitat, and that you will have to move through sometimes dense vegetation.
What to bring with you?
Please bring drinking water. Be sure to wear closed toe shoes and LONG pants (not shorts), t-shirt (jacket or sweatshirt if necessary), and sun screen. Long pants are required because some areas have dense vegetation and can be difficult to navigate.
Where to meet?
Please meet biologist by the flag pole in front of the UF Gulf Coast Research and Education Center. Note: You must arrive no later than 1:30PM. At 1:30 PM the shift lead for the day will be departing to the designated site for scoping for that day. Consider arriving around 1:20 PM if possible to ensure you do not get left behind!
Please note:
This event is only available for those who are 16 and older due to difficult field conditions.
Please notify a day in advance if you sign
up for this event, and then are no longer able to attend.
