Join us on Friday, March 31st from 6:30-8pm for the next in our series of Florida nature writer guest lectures. In honor of women’s history month, we’ve invited author Leslie Kemp Poole to speak to us about the important, but perhaps lesser known, stories of women in Florida’s environmental movement. Leslie Kemp Poole is an award-winning writer and historian. A fourth-generation Floridian, Poole has long been interested in the role of women in the state’s environmental movement and how they were saving the state’s important natural resources even before they were able to vote. During the first part of our program, Poole will give a presentation including references to her book: Saving Florida: Women’s Fight for the Environment in the Twentieth Century, and then there will be time for questions and discussion. It’s the conservation center’s hope that participants leave this program feeling informed and inspired! Copies of Poole’s books will NOT be for sale at the event. If you’re interested in asking Poole to sign a copy of her book(s), you’ll need to pre-purchase online or special order from a local bookstore. A complete list of Poole’s books including links to purchase can be found on her website: lesliekemppoole.com/books. Space is limited and registration is required (click on 'Register' above)! This event has been generously supported by the Hernando Audubon Society. Any person who requires special accommodation to participate should notify us at least 2 weeks before the event by e-mailing Chinsegut@myfwc.com or by calling 352-754-6722. Those with hearing or speech impairments may contact the agency using the Florida Relay Service at 800-955-8771 (TDD) or 800-955-8770 (voice).
