We will be helping to remove invasive species/ clean-up and maintain an important Gopher Tortoise study site (Red Hill) at Archbold Biological Station. This workday will not only beautify this important research area but ensure invasive species are properly removed and out of the way of Gopher Tortoises. This event is a partnership between Archbold Biological Station and Ridge Rangers volunteers. It has become a continuous project because of the successful efforts of previous Ridge Rangers. Much appreciation to all who have contributed to its success!
We will work an area near the bathroom and water facilities.
Goal: to remove as many invasive species as possible and remove old debris from the Redhill research area.
Recommended attire: long pants, closed toe shoes, hat, and sunscreen. Recommended gear: work gloves and water bottle. Optional bring-along: snacks. Cold water and restrooms are located near the work site. Bags will be provided for litter and debris.
We will meet at the entrance gate to Red Hill (right across the street from the main Archbold Biological Station entrance). From there you will be able to park your vehicles inside the gate and we will use UTVs and work trucks to reach the designated working spots for the day.
Here's a photo of one the Gopher Tortoises that calls Red Hill it's home.
You're welcome to stay after the event to enjoy Archbold Biological Station.
